Scrap metal theft thwarted by alert to manager’s iPad
The manager of a Wilnecote business watched two would-be thieves trying to steal from outside the factory – on his iPad.
Eighteen-year-old Elliott Winfield and friend Luke Swetman, aged 20, were caught on CCTV gathering up metal from the scrap yard of Zeftec, in Tame Valley Industrial Estate.
A motion-sensor camera picked up the activity – and linked the footage direct to the device belonging to Zeftec manager Mr Bar, who watched them from his home.
He immediately phoned the police, and continued to watch as officers rushed to the scene.
One of the company’s eight motion-sensor cameras was activated at 1.32am, which sent a call to the manager. He could then watch on his iPad.
Moira Bell, prosecuting, said: “He could see two males outside the factory, and could clearly see them getting ready to steal items from the yard.
“After calling the police, he kept watch until they arrived.
